You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your employer offers you a choice of wage scales: a monthly salary of $3200 plus commission of 7% of sales or a salary of $3700 plus a 5% commission. At what sales level would the options yield the same salary?
:
Let x = amt of sales:
:
Write an equation for each scenario
W = wages
W1 = .07x + 3200
and
W2 = .05x + 3700
:
Same salary occurs when W1 = W2, right?
so we have
.07x + 3200 = .05x + 3700
Do some basic algebra to find x:
.07x - .05x = 3700 - 3200
:
.02x = 500
x = 500%2F.02
x = $25,000 in sales would give you equal wages
:
:
You can prove this to yourself, substitute 25000 for x in both equations
and see if they are equal
