: I am currently working on factoring trinomials. I need help factoring the equation: This problem comes from the Intermediate Algebra: Graphs and Functions (Third Edition) by the Houghton-Miffler Company.
Chapter 1, section 4, page 48, problem number 32. Please help me and thank you very much. This question is from textbook
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 2x^2-6x+2
Using the quadratic equatio: we get:
x=(6+-sqrt[-6^2-4*2*2])/2*2
x=(6+-sqrt[36-16])/4
x=(6+-sqrt20}/4
x=(6+-4.472)/4
x=(6+4.472)/4
x=10.472/4
x=2.618 Answer.
x=(6-4.472)/4
x=1.528/4
x=.382 Answer.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 2x^2-6x+2
Find the roots using the quadratic formula
x = [36 +- sqrt(36 - 4*2*2)]/4
x = [36 +- sqrt(20)]/4
x = [36 +- 2sqrt(5)]/4
x = 9 + (1/2)sqrt(5) or x = 9 - (1/2)sqrt(5)
Factors:
((x-9) - (1/2)sqrt(5)) ((x-9) + (1/2)sqrt(5))
