You can put this solution on YOUR website! What is the area in square feet of a room that is (2x - 1) feet wide and (7x + 3) feet long?
.
Area is:
length * width
.
The problem tells us that:
width is (2x-1) feet
length is (7x+3) feet
.
Therefore, area must be:
length * width
(7x+3)(2x-1)
Applying "FOIL" we get:
(7x)(2x) + (7x)(-1) + (3)(2x) + (3)(-1)
= (14x) + (-7x) + (6x) + (-3)
= 14x + (-7x + 6x) -3
= 14x + (-x) -3
= 14x - x -3 square feet
