Question 15512: A piece of rope 60 meters long is cut into two pieces so that the longest piece is twice as shorter. How long are the two pieces? Answer by pwac(253) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x= the shorter piece
So you need x+2timesx=60 this gives you an equation:
x+2x=60 Add x-terms
3x=60 Divide both sides by 3
x=20
So your pieces of rope are 20 metres and 40 metres
