The expression 6s^2 represent the surface area of a cube with edges of length s. Find the surface area of a cube with each edge length.
a. 3 inches b 1.5 meters
.
The problem is asking you for the "surface area" of TWO cubes -- one cube with the length of an edge as 3 inches and another cube where the edge is 1.5 meters
.
For a: (3 inches)
Simply plug it into the given equation:
6s^2
Here s = 3
6(3)^2
= 6(9)
= 54 square inches
.
For b: (1.5 meters)
Simply plug it into the given equation:
6s^2
Here s = 1.5
6(1.5)^2
= 6(2.25)
= 13.5 square meters
