Question 153371: I took algebra last year and my geometry teacher just gave us a review on the first day. she did not go over the problems and i am confused on how to do these types of problems. can you tell me if i am doing this correctly? if not will you show me what is wrong?
the / represents the fraction bar, not division.
x /(x-3) = (x+1) / (x-4)
x-x-3 = x-x+1+4
-3 = 5

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve for x:
x%2F%28%28x-3%29%29+=+%28%28x%2B1%29%29%2F%28%28x-4%29%29 Multiply both sides by both (x-3) and (x-4)
x%28x-4%29+=+%28x%2B1%29%28x-3%29 Now expand both sides of the equation.
x%5E2-4x+=+x%5E2-2x-3 Now subtract x%5E2 from both sides.
-4x+=+-2x-3 Add 4x to both sides.
0+=+2x-3 Add 3 to both sdes.
3+=+2x Finally, divide both sides by 2.
x+=+3%2F2
