Question 153252: Could you please help me with some word problems my teacher has assigned? We were told these were not directly from a math book.
One number is twice another number. If the larger is diminished by ten, the result is two more than the smaller. Find both numbers.
I thought it was: 2x -10, but I wasnt getting it right.
Could you please help me?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! One number is twice another number. If the larger is diminished by ten, the result is two more than the smaller. Find both numbers.

You got half the equation 2x-10, but what about "the result is 2 more than the smaller"
2x - 10 = x + 2
2x - x = 2 + 10
x = 12
