(1/3)^2 + 1/4 - (4/3)^2 * (1/2)^3
= 1/9 + 1/4 - 16/9 * 1/8
= 1/9 + 1/4 - 16/72
= 8/72 + 18/72 - 16/72
= 10/72
= 5/36
