Solve the system
5x + 3y = -13
7x - 2y = 19
:
We can us the elimination method,
multiply the 1st equation by 2
multiply the 2nd equation by 3
results:
10x + 6y = -26
21x - 6y = 57
-------------------addition eliminates y, find x
31x + 0y = 31
x = 31%2F31
x = 1
:
Find y using the 1st equation, substitute 1 for x:
5(1) + 3y = -13
3y = -13 - 5
3y = -18
y = %28-18%29%2F3
y = -6
:
Check solutions in the 2nd equation:
7x - 2y = 19
7(1) - 2(-6) = 19
7 + 12 = 19

In eqn 1 we get,
y=%28-13-5x%29%2F3 -----------> eqn 3
Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 2,
7x-2%28%28-13-5x%29%2F3%29=19
7x%2B%2826%2B10x%29%2F3=19
%2821x%2B26%2B10x%29%2F3=19 ---------> 31x%2B26=19%2A3
31x=57-26 -----------> cross%2831%29x%2Fcross%2831%29=cross%2831%29%2Fcross%2831%29
x=1
