You can put this solution on YOUR website! A hospital parking lot charges $3.00 for the first hour or part thereof, and 1.50 for each additional hour or part thereof.
-----------------------------
A weekly pass costs $42.00 and allows unlimited parking for 7 days.
-----------------------------
If each visit Johnny makes to the hospital lasts two and a half hours, what is the minimum number of visits that would make it worthwhile to buy a pass?
-----------------------
-----------------------
Ans:
Each 2 1/2 hour visit costs $3+2($1.50) = $6.00
-------------------------
Solve Inequality:
Let "x" be number of daily visits.
Number of weeks would be "x/7"
-------------------
When is Cost for x/7 number of weeks less than daily cost at $6 per day?
42(x/7) < 6x
6x < 6x
---------------
The cost is the same for multiples of 7 day weeks.
---------------
1-6 days the cost would be
42 by the week and 6 to 36 by the day.
---------------
Looks like there is no numbers of days when the weekly rate is better than
the daily.
----------------
