You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We could say,
x+.28y=.4(x+y)
x+.28y=.4x+.4y
-.12y=-.6x
y=5x
f(x)=5x
Now, for the given, f(x)=40=y gives x=8.

So, this is pretty simplified.
We can say, for example:
Larry needs to purchase as many 2x4s as he can with his $40. Each 2x4 costs $5. How many 2x4s can he buy?
The solution is found by working backward.
