You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two different stocks were purchased for $18,025. The first stock was priced at$45.50 per share and the second stock was priced at $19.75 per share. A total of 500 stocks were purchased. How many shares were purchased at $45.50?
----------------
Quantity Equation: x + y = 500
Value EQUATION: 45.50x + 19.75y = 18025
----------------------------
Rearrange and Modify to get:
1975x + 1975y = 500*1975
4550x + 1975y = 1802500
----------------------------
Subtract 1st from 2nd to get:
2575x = 815000
x = 313.5...(# of shares purchased at 45.50)
===================
