Question 148913: With these two problems, I am very confused, because math is not my thing, and I do not understand it.
1. -3[5+2(-7+x)+x]= -3x- (x+3) I do not even know where to begin with this one.
2. 4x+4/5= 5x-1/2-x/3 (the / are over signs) Found 2 solutions by ankor@dixie-net.com, mangopeeler07:Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. -3[5+2(-7+x)+x] = -3x- (x+3)
:
Begin inside the brackets, multiply 2 times -7 and x. eliminates one set of brackets.
and you have:
-3[5 - 14 + 2x+ x] = -3x - (x+3)
:
Do the math inside the brackets:
-3(-9 + 3x) = -3x - (x+3)
:
Multiply what's inside the brackets
Remember, a neg outside the brackets changes the signs
+27 - 9x = -3x - x - 3
:
27 - 9x = -4x - 3
:
Some basic algebra, isolate x
+27 + 3 = -4x + 9x
:
30 = + 5x
x = +
x = 6
:
:
Check solution in original equation, replace x with 6
-3[5+2(-7+6)+6] = -3(6)- (6+3)
-3[5 + 2(-1) + 6] = -18 - 9
-3[5 - 2 + 6] = -27
-3(9) = -27; confirms our solution, x=6

2. 4x + 4/5 = 5x-1/2 - x/3
Do mean: = -
or = 5x - -
or something else, use brackets to clarify things here
