You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the length of a rectangle is 7 more than the width. the perimeter is 34 meters. what is the width and length in meters and what is the area in square meters?
.
Let W = width of the rectangle
then from "length of a rectangle is 7 more than the width" we have
W+7 = length of the rectangle
.
Remember the perimeter of any rectangle is:
L+L+W+W = 2(L+W)
And, because the perimeter is 34 meters we get:
34 = 2(L+W)
Earlier, we said that L=W+7 so plug that in and we get:
34 = 2(W+7+W)
34 = 2(2W+7)
34 = 4W+14
20 = 4W
5 meters = W (the width)
W+7 = 5+7= 12 meters (the length)
.
Area = LW = 12(5) = 60 sq meters
