Question 147114: The Golden Ratio: The ancient Greeks thought that the most pleasing shape for a rectangle was one for which the ratio of the length to the width was 8 to 5, the golden ration. If the length of a rectangular painting is 2 ft longer that it's width, then for what dimensions would the length and the width have the golden ratio? Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! width = x
length = 2 + x
Length / Width = Length / Width
(2 + x) / x = 8 / 5
10 + 5x = 8x
10 = 3x
10/3 = x
width = x = 10/3 ft
length = 2 + x = 2 + 10/3 = 16/3 ft
