Question 146557: 1.find the radius of a pulley which is driven at 100rev/min by a belt moving at 12 m/s.
2.a railroad toy is laid out in circular form. what diameter should be used if the track is to change direction by 32degrees in a distance of 50cm?
pls., help me in my assignment in trigonometry.,. tnx a lot.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.find the radius of a pulley which is driven at 100rev/min by a belt moving at 12 m/s.
.
Recap on important info pulled from problem:
pulley is revolving 100 times per minute
belt is moving at 12m/s.
.
In a minute, the belt moved:
12 m/s * 60 sec/min = 720 meters
.
Now, to determine the circumference of the pulley, we simply divide the "distance traveled" (720) by the "number of revolutions" (100):
720/100 = 7.2 meters
.
Circumference of a circle = 2(pi)r
where:
pi=3.14
r = radius
.
therefore,
7.2 = 2(3.14)r
3.6 = 3.14r
1.15 meters = radius
.
2.a railroad toy is laid out in circular form. what diameter should be used if the track is to change direction by 32degrees in a distance of 50cm?
.
There is 360 degrees in a circle.
.
Let C = circumference
then
(32/360)C = 50cm
32C = 18000cm
C = 562.5 cm
.
Now, the relationship of diameter to circumference is:
C = (pi)D
where D=diameter
.
562.5 cm = (3.14)D
179.14 cm = D
