Question 146519: A line passing through (15,19) and (10, Y) is parallel to a line with slope 2. What is the value of Y.
I tried working this problem by using the following equation...
M= Y2-Y1/X2-X1
M= Y-19/10-15
Now if they want the slope to be a positive number, then why is the bottom half of the equation (10-15) going to be a negative number (-5). To me, there is no way to get a slope of 2 from this equation. Can you please help.

M=Y2-Y1/X2-X1
M=Y-19/10-15
2=(y-19)/-5
y-19=-10
y=-10+19
y=9
proof:
(9-19)/(10-15)
-10/-5=2 voila we have a positive slope=2.
