: Thank you for allowing me to ask a question. My instructions say:
Simplify
What I've tried:
I broke 4 square root 8 down to 4 square root 2 times 2 times 2,
multiplied 6 over the square root 2 by square root 2 over square root 2,
this gave me 8 square root 2 minus 2 times 3 square root 2 over 2,
which I then croseed out the 2 over 2 and am left with 8 square root 2 minus 3 square root 2.
I believe my answer is 5 square root 2.
Thanks for any input!! This question is from textbook Elementary Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 4 square root 8 minus 6 over square root 2
------------
[4sqrt(8) - 6] /sqrt(2)
-----------------
Multiply numerator and denominatorby sqrt(2) to get:
= [4sqrt(16) -6sqrt(2)]/2
= [4*4 -6sqrt(2)] / 2
= 8 - 3sqrt(2)
