You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A special coffee blend is made from two varieties of brew, one that costs $4.00/lb and another that costs $2.00/lb. How many pounds of each type are needed to make 20 kg of a blend worth $2.50/lb?
:
Let x = amt of $4 coffee
:
The resulting amt is to be 20 kg, therefore:
(20-x) = amt of $2 coffee
:
4x + 2(20-x) = 2.5(20)
;
4x + 40 - 2x = 50
:
4x - 2x = 50 - 40
:
2x = 10
x = 10%2F2
x = 5 kg of $4 coffee
and
20 - 5 = 15 kg of $2 coffee
;
:
Check:
4(5) + 2(15) = 2.5(20)
20 + 30 = 50
