Question 145940: Please help me Evaluate the functions for the values of x given as 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16. Describe the differences in the rate at which each function changes with increasing values of x.
f(x) = log x

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Make a table. Place the different values of x in the left hand column. Then use a calculator to find f(x) at each value of x. For instance, if x = 1, log(1) = 0

x ---- y=logx
1 ---- 0
2 ---- 0.301
4 ---- 0.602
8 ---- 0.903
16 --- 1.204
What do you see about each new row? Each x value is 2 times the previous x value. Each log(x) value is 0.301 greater than the previous value.
What does that tell you? It says that a straight line plotted on log graph paper is an exponential plot when plotted on 'normal' graph paper.
