the median is not necessarily the same as the AVERAGE (or mean). For example, the median of 2, 6, 10, 22 and 40 is 10 but the average is 18.
For this, your first want to put these numbers in order.
2,4,5,7,9,x
Since you have a even amount of numbers, you need to take the average of the 2 middle numbers go get the median. So, X can go anywhere after the 7.
2,4,5,7,X,9
or
2,4,5,7,9,X
It doesn't matter.
Now what is the number inbetween 5 and 7? 6 is!
That is how to get the median.
