(1a3 +4a2 -7)+ (3a3 -2a2 +1)

Rewrite as :
a^3 + 4a^2 - 7 + (3a^3 - 2a^2 + 1)
-----------------------
Combine "like" terms:
a^3 + 3a^3 + 4a^2-2a^2 -7+1
Simplify:
4a^3 + 2a^2 -6

If you are getting confused with these problems I suggest you
review the rules for adding and subtracting signed numbers.
