rational number: any number that can be expressed a ratio (ie fraction) of 2 whole numbers. Examples of rational numbers are 2%2F3, 2, 1%2F2, etc.

irrational number: any number that cannot be expressed as a fraction of two whole numbers. Examples of irrational numbers are sqrt%282%29%2F3 ( the sqrt%282%29 cannot be expressed as a fraction of two whole numbers), sqrt%2811%29, etc.
