You can put this solution on YOUR website! So let x be your house; you drive 3 miles to get to your friends house, then your drive back past your house 21 miles to get to the concert.
x+3=21
Subtract both sides by 3:
x+3-3=21-3
x=18
Your are 18 miles from your house.
