Question 1441: I want to know not only the answer to the question but also how to solve it. If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours, and John can paint the same house in 6 hour, how long will it take for both of them to paint the house together?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! I thoguht I did this question and "solve" it...ARRR....
because sally can paint a house in 4 hours, that's why she can paint 1/4 of a house in one hour, right?
because john can paint a house in 6 hours, that's why he can paint 1/6 of a house in one hour, right?
Then we have to let 1 be the total painting they have to do for the house because one means one house, right?
So we have to let x be the number of hours they need to paint one house
and now we can set up an equation:
((1/4)+(1/6))x = 1
(5/12)x = 1
now multiply both sides by (12/5) to find out what x is
x = (12/5)
So they took (12/5) hours to paint one house together, get it???
