Question 144076: If anyone could help with the following. I am having a little trouble getting the correct answer for this question.
The rade of a hill is 8.6%. If the road up the hill is 3.55 km long, what is the angle from the horizontal and the change in vertical and horizontal distances.
Any help would be appreciated as I just cant seem to get the correct answer. Thanks.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The grade of a hill is 8.6%. If the road up the hill is 3.55 km long, what is the angle from the horizontal and the change in vertical and horizontal distances.

Draw the picture.
If you have a right triangle extending up the hill to the right,
the small angle on the left is 8.6% = 0.086*90 = 7.74 degrees
------------------
The hypotenuse is 3.55 km
--------------------
The vertical side opposite the 7.74 degree angle = 3.55(sin(7.74))=0.4781..km
-----------------------
The base side = 3.55(cos(7.74)) = 3.51766..km
