Let x = P's age now
:
(x-13) = P's age 13 yrs ago
(x+7) = P's age in 7 yrs

An equation for what it says:
x-13 = 1%2F3(x+7)
multiply both sides by 3:
3(x-13) = x + 7
Multiply what's inside the brackets:
3x - 39 = x + 7
Add 39 and subtract x from both sides:
3x - x = 7 + 39
2x = 46
x = 46%2F2
x = 23 P'age now
