X-2Y=16
NOW REPLACE X IN THIS EQUATION BY(64-Y) & SOLVE FOR Y.
64-Y-2Y=16
-3Y=16-64
-3Y=-48
Y=-48/-3
Y=16 ANSWER FOR THE SMALLER NUMBER.
X+16=64
X=64-16
X=48 ANSWER FOR THE LARGER NUMBER.
PROOF:
48-2*16=16
48-32=16
16=16
