Question 142107: I'm not sure if this is the right subject line but I am working with decimal points and division. Can you please explain what I might have not done correct on the following problem:
76 divided by 1.9
We have to make sure we get the decimal point placed correctly in the answer.
This is my first time here so please let me know if I did not give this question or problem correctly. Thank You -T

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
explain what I might have not done correct on the following problem:
76 divided by 1.9
-----------------------
76 / 1.9 = 40
--------------------
Set that up as a long division problem
Let 1.9 be the divisor; let 76 be the dividend.
--------------
Move the decimal place on both divisor and divident one place to the right.
--------------
Then you have 19 as the divisor and 760 as the divident.
-----------------
Divide 19 into 76 and get 4 in the quotient
Multiply 4*19 = 76
Subtract 76 from 76 to get zero
Divide 19 into zero to get 0 in the 2nd place in the quotient.
