For any real number a, -a is its opposite, meaning a + (-a) = 0. The reciprocal of a is 1%2Fa, and the reciprocal of -a is 1%2F%28-a%29, but 1%2F%28-a%29=%28-1%29%2Fa=-1%2Fa and 1%2Fa%2B%28-1%2Fa%29=0.
