You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Twenty men did 1/4 of a job in eight days. Then it became necessary to complete the job in the next five days. How many additional men were added to the crew of twenty to accomplish this task?
:
From the information given, find out how many man-days required to complete the job
20 * 8 * 4 = 640 man-days to complete the job
:
Find out how many man-days required to finish the remaining 3/4 of the job.
:
3%2F4*640 = 480 man-days
:
Let x = no. of additional men required to did this in 5 days
:
5(20+x) = 480
:
100 + 5x = 480
:
5x = 480 - 100
x = 380%2F5
x = 76 more men required
:
Check
1st 20 men worked: 20 * 8 = 160 man days
2nd 96 men worked: 5 * 96 = 480 man days
------------------------------------------
Total to do the whole job = 640 man days
