Question 139784: While John is driving his car, he notices that the odometer reads 13931 miles. The mileage is a palindrome, a number that reads the same forward as it does backward. Exactly 2 hours later, John notices that the odometer displays a different palindrome. What is the most likely average speed at which the car has been traveling?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! As he is driving along, the next time the odometer has 31 on the end is 100 miles later, but that means that the reading would be 14031, but in another 10 miles, it would read 14041 and we would have our next palindrome. 100 + 10 = 110 miles. 110 miles in 2 hours is 55 mph. The next palindrome would occur at 14141, 210 miles after the first one. 210 miles in 2 hours is 105 mph. I don't think so. If he didn't wreck the car, some fat-bellied sheriff would get him.
