SOLUTION: Simplify the expression:
x3- 8xy2+3y3/x+3y (it reads as x-cubed +8xy (squared) + 3y (cubed)) at the top of the equation.
I have tried long division and factoring, and none of t

Question 139769: Simplify the expression:
x3- 8xy2+3y3/x+3y (it reads as x-cubed +8xy (squared) + 3y (cubed)) at the top of the equation.
I have tried long division and factoring, and none of those methods have worked. I have also tried to take out any common variables and to cancel, and that hasn't work either.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Actually, polynomial long division works just fine. I suspect that when you tried it, you made a very common error. You must put in place holders for missing terms before you start the long division process. Your numerator needs to be changed to look like this:
. Try your long division again using this expression as your dividend and see if that doesn't work out for you. Write back if you are still having problems.
