subtracting 30 __ x^2+12x=-30
adding the square of half of the x coefficient __ x^2+12x+(12/2)^2=-30+(12/2)^2
x^2+12x+36=6 __ taking square root __ x+6=+-sqrt(6)
subtracting 6 __ x=-6 +- sqrt(6)
