Let's look at the three equations you mentioned:
1st: (1/3)(x+6) = 3
Multiply both sides by 3 to get-------
x+6 = 9
Subtract 6 from both sides to get-----
x = 3
================================
2nd: (2/3)(x18)= -6
Multiply both sides by (3/2) to get---------
x18 = -9
Divide both sides by 18 to get------------
x = -1/2
-------------------
(2/3)x = 12
Multiply both sides by (3/2) to get:
x = 18

let's go over the problem that you think you know, step-by-step: (s+6) = 3
:
Get rid of the denominator multiply both sides by 3:
3*(s+6) = 3*3
Cancel the denominator, multiply on the right, and you have;
1(s+6) = 9

Multiply both terms inside the brackets by 1:
s + 6 = 9

Subtract 6 from both sides and you have (we want s by itself on the left):
s = 9 - 6

Confirm the solution is correct by substituting 3 for s (3+6) = 3 *9 = 3
