Question 139064: Hi, I have been having some trouble with my algebra home work and I am a little behind. I have three questions I hope you can help me with.
1. Convert to scientific notation (here you may use x as multiplication):
0.00083
2. For f(x) = 6x – 7, find f(2).
3. Perform the indicated operations:
(-x2 – 6x + 3) – (-9x2 + x – 1) – (x2 + 5x – 2)
Iwould like to thank you in avance for all your help and all the help you have giving me so far.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. Convert to scientific notation (here you may use x as multiplication):
0.00083
Move the decimal 4 places to the right, and you have 8.3(10^-4)
:
2. For f(x) = 6x – 7, find f(2)
f(2) just means substitute 2 for x.
f(2) = 6(2) - 7
f(2) = 12 - 7
f(2) = 5
:
3. Perform the indicated operations:
(-x2 – 6x + 3) – (-9x2 + x – 1) – (x2 + 5x – 2)
:
Remove the brackets, remember a neg outside the brackets, change the signs:
-x^2 - 6x + 3 + 9x^2 - x + 1 - x^2 - 5x + 2
;
Group like terms
-x^2 + 9x^2 - x^2 - 6x - x - 5x + 3 + 1 + 2
:
7x^2 - 12x + 5
