Question 13764: -2x-5=x+4
Answer by tjnw79(57) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! What you do to one side of the = you must do the same to the other.
Our example is -2x-5=x+4
What your trying to do is simplify the answer. If you have a -5 on one side you want to add a +5 to both sides to cancel out one side and moving the problem to the other side of the formula.
-2x=x+9
Then take the x and subtract.
Now the formula is
-3x=9
because the -3x is multiplied you want to divide both sides by -3
x=9/-3
your answer should be -3.
