Question 1373: 1) Sue is both the 50th best & the 50th worst student at her school. How many
students attend her school ?
2) In a race from point X to point Y & back, Jack averages 30 miles per hour to
point Y & 10 miles per hour back to point X. Sandy averages 20 miles per
hour in both directions. Between Jack & Sandy, who finished first ? Found 2 solutions by usyim88hk, maxitee:Answer by usyim88hk(158) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) 99. because 49 people are better then her and 49 people are worse than her and so 49+49+1(Sue) = 99
2)They both finish at the same time because 30+10 = 20+20

X_________________________________Y
Let's assume the distance from X to Y is 300 Miles. (Being that the distance is a constant, we can affix any number to it because both racers covered the same distance. So i am choosing 300 Miles for convenience.
Now, the next phase is to look at the time it will take both races to complete the race. The winner is the person that completes the race in a shorter time.
Jack = It will take him 10hours to and 30 hours fro. Using S=D/t (S=>Speed, D=>distance and t=>time)
Sandy = It will take her 15hours to and 15hours fro using the same relationship as above.
Therefore Sandy completes the race first in just 30hours while it takes Jack 40hours.
