You can put this solution on YOUR website! Mack traveled from his home to his office at a speed of 58 mph. He traveled the same route on his way back home , but on the return trip his speed was 62 mph. If altogether, Mack spent a total of 3 hours on the road, how many hours did the trip to his office take?
----------------
To the office DATA:
rate = 58 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 58x miles
-------------------
From office DATA:
rate = 62 mph ; 3-x hrs; distance = 62*(3-x) miles
---------------------
EQUATION:
distance to = distance from
58x = 62(3-x)
58x = 186-62x
120x = 186
x = 1.55 hrs (time to get to the office)
x = 1 hr 33 minutes (time to get to the office)
================
