What does this question mean? The sum of 2 consecutive odd integers is 1472. Find the two integers.
:
It means that if add one odd number to the next odd number the total will be 1472
:
Let the first odd number = x
Then
the next odd number will be =(x+2)
:
Add the two numbers:
x + (x+2) = 1472
Add the x's
2x + 2 = 1472
Subtract 2 from both sides
2x + 2 - 2 = 1472 - 2
:
2x = 1470
Divide both sides by 2
x = 1470%2F2
x = 735
:
the next odd number is two more: = 737
;
:
Add those two numbers and see if they add up to 1472.
735 + 737 = 1472, proves that x = 735
