Question 136177: Sam lives on a lot that he thought was a square, 157 feet by 157 feet. When he had it surveyed, he discovered that one side was actually 2 feet longer than he thought and the other was actually 2 feet shorter than he thought. How much less area does he have than he though he had?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The lot was actually (157 +2) x (157 - 2) = 159 x 155
He thought the lot was 157%2A157+=+24649 ft2
But it actually was 159%2A155+=+24645 ft2
It was 24649+-+24645+=+4 ft2 less area than he thought
