"A quadrilateral with sides 8cm, 9cm, 6cm and 5cm has area 45cm squared. Find the area of a similar quadrilateral whose longest side is 15cm. I don't understand how to set up the problem.

The ratio of 9cm/15cm = 3/5 ; that is the ratio of longest to longest.
So the missing sides of the similar quadrilateral is (3/5)8cm = (24/5)cm
(3/5)6cm = (18/5)cm and (3/5)5cm = 3cm.

The 1st quad has area 45cm^2 = 9cm*5cm
The similar quad must have area [(3/5)9]
