You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Are these complementary angles (angles that add to 90 degrees)?

If so, then...

(Angle 3)+(Angle 5)=90

x%2B20%2Bx=90

2x%2B20=90 Combine like terms on the left side

2x=90-20Subtract 20 from both sides

2x=70 Combine like terms on the right side

x=%2870%29%2F%282%29 Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x

x=35 Divide

x%2B20 Now go back to angle 3

35%2B20 Plug in x=35

55 Add

So the measure of angle 3 is 55 degrees and the measure of angle 5 is 35 degrees

OR...

Are these supplementary angles (angles that add to 180 degrees)?

If so, then...

(Angle 3)+(Angle 5)=180

x%2B20%2Bx=180

2x%2B20=180 Combine like terms on the left side

2x=180-20Subtract 20 from both sides

2x=160 Combine like terms on the right side

x=%28160%29%2F%282%29 Divide both sides by 2 to isolate x

x=80 Divide

x%2B20 Now go back to angle 3

80%2B20 Plug in x=80

100 Add

So the measure of angle 3 is 100 degrees and the measure of angle 5 is 80 degrees
