Question 133783: Hello I am having some trouble with a few word problems. I just can't seem to get them.
The length of a rectangle is 4 times as long as it is wide. If the perimeter is 60 meters, find the dimensions of the length and width.
The length is 4 times as long as it is wide... Isn't half of the perimeter what I need to multiply by? I'm very confused. It seems simple but I dont know how to set up the problem the right way. 4x+30?
Thank you for your time,

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
MRS. GIBSON, THE PERIMETER OF A RECTANGLE IS 2*LENGTH+2*WIDTH
IF WE LET W=WIDTH
THEN 4W (WE ARE TOLD)=LENGTH
SO, PERIMETER=2*W+2*4W=60m
2W+8W=60
10W=60
W=6 M---------WIDTH
LENGTH=4W=4*6=24 M
ck
2*6+2*24=60
12+48=60
60=60
