Let x=number of coins that Lewis has
And x=number of coins that Julie has also
Value of Lewis's coins =$0.10x
Value of Julie's coins =$0.25x
Now we are told that:
$0.25x=$0.10x+$1.80 subtract $.0.10x from each side
$0.25x-$0.10x=$1.80 collect like terms
$0.15x=$1.80 divide both sides by $0.15
x=12-------------- number of coins that each have

12*$0.25=12*$0.10+$1.80
$3.00=$1.20+$1.80
$3.00=$3.00
