You can put this solution on YOUR website! How many gallons of a 15% salt solution msut be mixed with four gallons of 20% salt solution in order to make a 17% salt solution?
-----------------------
15% solution DATA:
Amount = x gallons ; Amt. of salt = 0.15x
-----------------------
20% solution DATA:
Amount = 4 gallons ; Amt of salt = 0.20*4 = 0.8
-----------------------
17% solution DATA:
Amt. = x+4 gallons ; Amt of salt = 0.17(x+4)=0.17x+0.68
-----------------------
EQUATION:
salt + salt = salt
0.15x + 0.8 = 0.17x+0.68
0.02x = 0.12
x = 6 (# of gallons of 15% solution that must be added)
