You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(18+2X)(13+2X)-18*13=516
234+26X+36X+4X^2-234=516
4X^2+62X-516=0
(2X+43)(2X-12)=0
2X-12=0
2X=12
X=12/2
X=6 FT. ANSWER FOR THE WIDTH OF THE PATH.
(18+2*6)(13+2*6)-234=516
(18+12)(13+12)-234=516
30*25-234=516
750-234=516
516=516

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
L*w=A
18*13=234 ft^2
Let x=width of the path
(x+18)(x+13)-234=516
x^2+31x+234-234=516
x^2+31x-516=0
(x+43)(x-12)=0
x=12 ft.
