Chelsea goes to the store and buys two (2) pairs of shoes and four(4) pairs of socks for $109.00.
Lora goes with her and buys three (3) pairs of shoes and five (5) pairs of socks for $160.00
Find the price of a pair of shoes and a pair of socks.
Can you please help in to understand first how to set up the problem and then
how to solve it.

(1) 2s+%2B+4k+=+109
(2) 3s+%2B+5k+=+160
multiply (1) by 3 and (2) by -2
and add the equations
6s+%2B+12k+=+327
-6s+-+10k+=+-320
2k+=+7
k+=+3.5
(1) 2s+%2B+4k+=+109
2s+%2B+4%2A3.5+=+109
2s+%2B+14+=+109
2s+=+95
s+=+47.5
A pair of socks cost $3.50 and a pair of shoes cost $47.50
check:
(1) 2%2A47.5+%2B+4%2A3.5+=+109
95+%2B+14+=+109
109+=+109
(2) 3%2A47.5+%2B+5%2A3.5+=+160
142.5+%2B+17.5+=+160
