Question 131350: Please Help Me!! I've worked these same problems for the last 4 days and cannot figure it out.
Object is to find the equation and write in slope intercept form.
m=3/4 (2,-5)
y-y1= m(x-x1)
y-(-5)=3/4 (x-2)
y+5=3/4x-6
y+5-5=3/4x-6/4
y=3/4x-6/4 (This is how far I got)

I know you have to add the five but I have no idea how they come up with the answer. How do you add the five and simplify.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Y=mX+b IS THE LINE EQUATION WHERE m+SLOPE & b=Y INTERCEPT.
NOW YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE X & Y VALUES & THE SLOPE (m=3/4) THEN SOLVE FOR THE Y INTERCEPT(b).
-5=3/4*2+b
-5=6/4+b
b=-5-6/4
b=-5-1.5
b=-6.5
Y=3X/4-6.5 ANSWER.
------------------------------------------------------------
DON'T KNOW WHAT METHOD YOU ARE USING BUT YOU CAN SEE MINE IS A DIRECT SOLUTION REQUIRING 6 STEPS. YOU HAVE 6 STEPS, WERE GIVEN THE SLOPE(m=3/4) & STILL DO NOT HAVE THE Y INTERCEPT VALUE(b).
y-y1= m(x-x1)
y-(-5)=3/4 (x-2)
y+5=3/4x-6
y+5-5=3/4x-6/4
y=3/4x-6/4 (This is how far I got)
-----------------------------------
YOU ARE GIVEN THE SLOPE=3/4.
YOU NEGLECTED TO SUBTRACT THE -5 FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EQUATION IN STEP 4.
