An administrator of a popular web site is told that a new server can handle 11,000 "hits" (users accessing the site) per second. The web site currently experiences a peak demand of about 85,000 hits per second; but every month, the peak demand increases by 3500 hits per second. Use a proportion equation to determine how many new servers the administrator should buy to address expected traffic for the next 18 months.

I don't know what a proportion equation is, but this is how I would solve it:
18 months * 3500hps/month = 63000hps, so after 18 months, peak traffic will have increased by 63,000 hits per second. Now add this to the current peak traffic:
85,000+63,000=148,000
So the servers will need to be able to handle 148,000 hits per second after 18 months. Each can handle 11,000, so we divide:
148,000/11,000=13.45455
So 13 servers is not quite enough, he has to buy 14 servers since he ccan't buy part of a server.
